If you would like to transfer a domain name from one domain name registrar to another, you will have to go through a couple of safety steps. One of them is getting a unique EPP authorization code from the current registrar company – as long as you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the owner's mailbox and nobody else can get it. You will need to provide this code to the new registrar company, or else they will not be able to initiate the transfer procedure. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may contain numbers or special symbols such as dots or commas, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy & paste the correct code. As an additional safety measure, the transfer code for a domain may be reset regularly. Certain companies refer to this code as a domain secret, an Auth key or a domain password as well.
